Getting visible abs is not about doing hundreds of crunches every day. You already have abdominal muscles — the goal is to build them and get lean enough for them to become visible.
If you have excess body fat covering your abs, you need to lose fat.
A calorie deficit means eating fewer calories than your body burns.
A sensible starting point for many people is around a 300–500 calorie daily deficit.
The goal is steady progress you can actually maintain.
Protein helps you maintain muscle while losing body fat.
If you resistance train, aim for roughly 1.6–2.2 g of protein per kg of bodyweight per day.
For example, if you weigh 80 kg, that would be approximately 128–176 g of protein per day.
Good protein sources include chicken, lean beef, fish, eggs, Greek yoghurt, milk, lentils and whey protein.
Losing fat reveals your abs, but training them can make them thicker and more developed.
Train your abs around 2–3 times per week. Good exercises include:
Treat your abs like any other muscle. Gradually increase the resistance, repetitions or difficulty over time.

Tracking your food for a period of time can help you understand how much you are actually eating.
Doing ab exercises does not specifically burn the fat covering your stomach.
Your genetics influence where you store fat and where you lose it first.
For many people, the lower stomach is one of the final areas to become lean.
If you are losing body fat but your abs are not fully visible yet, keep going.
Think about:
The next six months are going to pass regardless.
You can spend them repeating the same habits, or you can use them to build a physique you are genuinely proud of.
